GREENEXPO ATTRACTIONS

 

 

 Renewable Energy Power Plant  (Main Street parking lot + Sustainability Street)

This year the Bluegrass GreenExpo is using renewable energy to power many of its needs.  In the Main Street parking lot Kentucky Solar Partnership with a solar photovoltaic array and Bluegrass Windpower with its wind turbine are producing power.  AES Solar is displaying a solar trailer with batteries fully charged on Sustainability Street.  The Kids Expo, Music Stage and Workshop areas (General Track and Technical Track B) are using clean, green power.  Stop by these three displays for a demonstration of their abilities.


Sun Space Exhibits (curved space overlooking Triangle Park)

Cooking Demonstrations and Tastings: Great Local Chefs prepare Fresh Local Foods for your inspiration and enjoyment. The Demonstration Schedule will be posted in the Sun Space.

Green Art Show: See, Shop and Learn as area artists make and sell their artwork while educating shoppers about the “green” aspects of their work.

Kentucky Environmental Foundation: Learn how to make toxic-free cleaning chemicals and attend their workshop Saturday @ 3:00 p.m. and Sunday @ 2:00 p.m.

Friends of Wolf Run and Neighbors United for South Elkhorn Creek: See the work to protect and promote our area’s waterways.

Lexington’s Farmers Market:  Learn about continuing efforts to offer local, organic and fresh produce, dairy and meats to the central Kentucky population.

Heat and cool for $1 a day???  Learn about cutting edge modular home design as UK’s School of Design (architecture) showcases designs of new homes for $100,000 that cost $1/day to heat and cool.

Seedleaf:  Learn how to increase the amount, affordability, nutritional value, and sustainability of food available to people at risk of hunger in central Kentucky.  Check out their table composter as well!

Non-Profit / Educational Tables: Engage local non-profits and educators to learn about a variety of issues, what they are doing about them, and how you can do your part.

Locust Trace Agri-Science Farm (Fayette County Schools) - Learn what it means to be a sustainable farming learning center.  This approximately 90 acre farm will feature green practices, green building and sustainability as a means of learning.


Sustainability Street Exhibits (back of the main exhibit hall)

LFUCG Waste Reduction: See all of the tools provided by LFUCG for Fayette County residents to reduce their waste, including the Rosie, Herbie and Lenny. 

LFUCG Traffic Engineering:  A solar-powered Stop Sign.  See Lexington’s energy saving LED Traffic signals close up, learn how they work, and how much energy they are saving us. 

Green Garage: Featuring a GEM car, hybrid, Smart Car, and UK's solar car - the Gato Del Sol IV (Saturday).

Bluegrass PRIDE: A Rain Garden and Rain Barrel
